The
sign garden is maintained by the Gardeners of Crooked Billet throughout the
year. In the fall
of 2005, one of our garden club members, Mae Steere, recruited the help of
the Boy Scouts of Hatboro, Troop#3 to redesign the garden and plant new plants.
This idea sounded great to the boy scouts because one of their own was up
for an Eagle Scout badge, Mike Layton, and this would be a perfect opportunity
to earn it. The picture below depicts the redesign by the Mike Layton
and the rest of his troop. In 2006, Mae Steere with the help of some garden
club members won not only one award but two awards for their work in the
garden, the Myrrel R.Overdorff Community Action Award from the Garden Club
Federation of Pennsylvania and the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society Community
Greening Award!
As of 2007, the sign garden is managed by a band of roving gardeners just recently activated in the garden club. |
